Survivor Guilt

"Nothing but it's surprising that anyone else survived", Reid replied.

"Crazy is right. I didn't want her to go, but she did. I hope she didn't get killed". Brandon sighed, "Deep breath, deep breath."

Emile held the nearly sobbing man, "That girl he described is his girlfriend. I'm pretty sure she'll be back."

"All you can do is keep hope." she replied. "Did she take anything to protect herself with? Did she go by herself?" she asked walking over to them. "Can't really control anyone's actions you know."

"She has a hunting rifle and a hunting knife, but I have no idea if she brought enough ammo".

"All you can do is hope she did. Maybe someone out there found her and is helping her to get back." she added optimistically. "You never know."

"Yeah, Isaac and Gar went with her".

"Well I don't know who they are but I'm sure she'll be safe as long as someone went with her." she said looking for somewhere to sit down. She moved to one of the walls and slid down. Her face dirty. "So we just sit here and wait?"

Emile finally piped up, "Well, we could talk more if you want".

Brandon smiled, "Thanks for that".

"Talking is good." she replied, her irish accent now coming out fully. "I can't remember the last time I actually talked to a person. I was wondering if I was starting to go crazy. Do we know how far this has spread yet?"

Emile's accent was thicker in reply. "I was wondering the same thing about myself. I have no idea how far this spread."

"All I can tell you is that its bad on the other side of town and the outskirts." She replied, "The only places that don't look too terribly touched are the places that weren't all that populated. I just came from the other side of town and was just happy to see someone that was I guess normal is what you could call it."

"I'm hoping that this doesn't spread beyond this city. We could escape, but where would we go?"

"More than likely it has spread beyond the city." she replied with a sigh. "Isn't that the way things like that always work. Its probably world wide for all we know."

"But we have to keep hope", Emile frowned, "I mean, we can't just give up."

"By oh means." she replied, "Keep all the hope you want, but I've done lost my fair share of hope in the past year."

Emile frowned, "There's a silver lining to every cloud."

"where is it at?" she asked, "Not trying to sound down but ya know where are the people to help us? MY theory is we've been left here to die."

"They're coming soon, don't worry", Emile tried to calm Christy down.

"You keep telling yourself that." she replied, "I don't care either way, I'm going to fight until there aren't anymore of those things left. I'm not going to wait for help to come."

"Funny, Brianna told us the same thing", Brandon replied, "You've got her attitude to a T".

"No I have my own attitude." She corrected. "Wasn't always like this. Back in Ireland it was all good. Now I hate that my mum and me moved stateside."

"I was trying to tell you that she is a bit like you in that regard", Brandon replied.

"Back in Canada, it was all good, I shouldn't have moved here to pursue my professional career. I should have stayed there". Emile welled up.

"Same with me...at least until my father and brother died anyways." she added, "Didn't have a choice in the matter then. Mum moved us here to try to get away from all of it and what did it get me? Orphaned."

"At least you couldn't help it. I was a fool", Emile replied.

"We all make mistakes." she said sighing. "I just didn't protest my mother's. What was yours?"

"I came here all on my own, seeking a better life. I wish I hadn't".
